I accompanied Jacob's class on a field trip to our state capital this week. I found it very interesting. We got to have lunch (cold hamburgers) on a river boat.

Strawberry Jam

Buy the strawberries (if you can't pick them yourself, just buy the ones someone else picked)... Wash the jars.

Explain to the dog that you aren't in the kitchen to get him a treat, but he is welcome to stay and keep you company.

Mash the de-stemmed and clean berries; boil the pectin.

Fill the jars.... Admire your work.

Jam for a year. Yay!

My New House

I'm so excited about my new house, I couldn't wait to talk about it. We won't be moving in for a couple weeks (at which time, I will post lots of pictures).... but here are the highlights from the listing the realtor sent me. It is on a corner lot and the driveway (which would be to the right in this picture) is on a cul-de-sac. It's a pretty quiet little corner of the neighborhood.

This is my favorite room of all.... the kitchen (if you couldn't figure that out yourself). Isn't it gorgeous? So much more counter space than I have now in the apartment. (That room to the right beyond the kitchen is my bedroom).

The backyard! It has a covered porch and just these trees, which makes it so secluded and peaceful!!! :-) My bedroom looks out at the trees. And the yard isn't too big (so not alot of mowing).

Can't wait!

Workin'

Sarah, Jacob and I volunteered at The Saving Way thrift store.... mostly tagging clothes. Sarah was working on service hours for NJHS. Jacob and I were working on jewels for our crowns. Ha ha. Jacob did a great job putting pairs of shoes together.

Sarah's Birthday Present

April 27, our area was hit by many tornadoes and the power was knocked out for close to a week. Sarah's birthday was April 28. Thus, she didn't get her driver's permit or her birthday present (because what she wanted was to go and pick out a guitar!) We took care of the birthday present tonight........

She doesn't play, but that girl on the left is her friend Caroline and she plays... so she helped Sarah pick out the right guitar to start... and is going to show her the basics. I'm sure she will pick it up fast because she's had piano lessons for SO long.

As for the driver's permit... next week, hopefully. :-) I simply cannot believe she is old enough to drive.

I Got No Pictures

It's been an eventful few weeks and I have basically no pictures to share of any of it. But, here's a handy reference list:

1) Our area got hit hard with tornados on April 27 and the power was out at my house for close to a week
2) Sarah turned 15 on April 28, as we fled town (two years ago she spent her birthday at my grandpa's funeral... she has memorable birthdays)
3) I took the kids to Nashville to find power and then (because it is only 2 hours further) to Paducah to stay with Beth.
4) In Nashville, we went to the science museum and had a blast.
5) In Paducah, we were warmly welcomed like family., as always.. Nancy prepared us a wonderful meal and we got to help Beth celebrate her recent engagement to Chris. Sam was adorable as always.
6) Before the power went out on the day of "the storms" (we are now as a community marking time in relation to this day), I found out I had bronchitis. FIVE prescriptions later, I still don't think I'm completely over it, but I am much improved
7) Also on the morning of "the storms"... I made an offer on a house!!!! Had the inspection today and it passed with flying colors. I can't wait to share more about that.
8) I finished my first term of college (the second time around) and signed up for two more classes for summer.
9) God remained Faithful and True through it all.
