Grant me a Willing Spirit

A few weeks ago, I memorized Psalm 51.

It is the repentance chapter where David implores God, "Create in me a clean heart".

Two verses later he says, "Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me".

I keep getting stopped by that second part where David asks God to grant him a "willing spirit". (Looking at the verse in other versions, like the KJV, it reads a little differently, but I decided not to let that deter me from this thought!) After thanking God for the clean heart he created in me through Jesus' blood, I think that what I need most in my life right now is a willing spirit. NLT translates it even more to the point... "make me willing to obey you". Yes, please. :-) It is so hard at times to want to obey God and I'm not even sure why. But what good is a clean heart without a willingly obedient spirit to go with it? I have made that request a daily prayer...

God, please grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.

That was a great post and prayer. You memorized ALL of Psalm 51? I have the hardest time memorizing scripture. I'm not sure why, but it seems the older I have gotten, the harder it is to remember. I really need to work on it.

i've read through that a million times and never paid much attention to David's pleas for God to grant him a willing spirit, to sustain him. YEAH! I WANT THAT, TOO! why Why WHY do I have such a hard time obeying God even when His Greatness is staring me in the face. Thanks, Brenda for pointing this out for me.
(i especially have a hard time obeying when it is *commanded* to me.... haha)
